depths

the ocean.
man ignores it,
because he knows he
can’t make it his own
to stand upon – yet still
trashes it with the toxins
and ugliness he throws
from his own hands, sending
his garbage down deep
into the heart of her, but still
chooses to rake his ships
across her skin, not caring
for the pain within

written by Tiny Fawns for daily prompt: descend

gulls, and the mosaics of dreams

i broke pencils with too hard a grip
as i tried to write my thoughts as if
i were chiseling them into my skull
it’s no wonder i often feel the pull
of a headache coming on, i slip
over the words, feeling a bit foolish
i imagine myself at times like a gull
making up for gloomy days
by stripping dull coastlines of
shiny litter – trying to make
the most of imperfections,
finding value in the gold
that doesn’t always glitter –
before it stashes itself away into
waves walking with the sun
before it sets and burns away
the things i forgot to write in my head
which will fade into a strange
mosaic dream, outlined
in ocean blue and sunset red

fog & gold

light and dark come together
not to make grey, but to burn bright
with a golden dust that settles across
the heart of the sky, making trees
bow their heads, blushing while
pulling their scarves off, tossing them
to the ground, becoming fog and dewdrops
coating the grass and reeds
standing, waiting for the sun
to bring that gold into a soft sea blue

transience vs permanence

we wear pearls and think
them fancy, but what would
sea creatures believe? they’d
stare, their expressions confused
that we’d wear sand – but then
would wonder, what should
we wear from their land?
attempting to make necklaces
from dead leaves and potting soil,
maybe even beaded rosaries from
broken up asphalt
only to have it all fall and float away
seashells would be disappointed,
thinking it their fault that
the beauty of our items could not stay
but truth is, they create for eternity
while we’ve fallen into the mistake
of thinking and making for the day
